Washing Dishes by Hand
I grew up camping, so we learned at a young age how to wash dishes by hand.
Here are the steps, you can also watch the YouTube video below.
1. Sanitize your counter tops and lay down clean towels
2. Plug the sink
3. Start running hot water into the sink
4. Add 1-2 tablespoons of dish soap into the sink (you don't need a bunch)
5. Rinse off any super dirty dishes before adding to soapy water
6. Check temperature of water, don't make it too hot for your hands
7. Add dishes into the sink
8. Use a dish brush, wash rag or clean sponge to wash your dishes
9. Wash knives and pots & pans last
10. Once washed, rinse in clean, hot water
11. Lay dishes to dry on clean towels, or in a dish rack
12. Finish washing all the dishes
13. Dry your dishes with a clean towel
14. Drain the sink and dry it sink and dry faucet
15. Put your newly clean dishes away where they belong
"Why do I have to dry out the sink and faucet?" Over time, you will develop water spots on a stainless steel sink and/or faucet. Water spots are not fun to remove, so it is easier to take an extra minute to dry out the sink and faucet to prevent it from happening in the first place.
"Do I have to rinse everything after washing?" Yes. If there is soap residue left on dishes and glasses, they can lead to intestinal issues later in the day. Not to mention, your glass of water will taste like soap too.
"Should I sanitize my counter tops after washing dishes too?" Yes, you should. It was not done in this video, but is a great habit to get into. Sanitize before and after washing dishes.
"What kind of towels is he using to sanitize and dry the dishes with?" These are our reusable bamboo un-paper towels. We ordered them off of Amazon, they are amazing and use them for everything.
